I am new to all this, but here goes, Why is CCleaner removing all my restore points when I use the cleaner function, I know it is because I have created several during the last week and they are all there until I run cleaner, then as if by magic they are gone.
I am using the latest version of cleaner on XP SP3.
I run CCleaner a few times a day and I just checked and I have restore points back to early October so CCleaner does not remove restore points for me.
What applications do you have running?
Download MBAM then run it and Update with the latest definitions and do a Quick scan and have it remove everything it detects plus it may require you to reboot to remove some locked files:
I have 562 MBytes due to 9 folders holding 9 restore points.
If you have less than 1 MByte your Restore Point data has gone,
and if CCleaner did it by cleaning the files you would have been told how many hundreds of MBytes it purged.
Perhaps something, probably other than CCleaner, has damaged Windows and its registry so that it is no longer aware of the Restore Point data that may still be available
This would be a good time for System Restore to mend the registry - if only it was working !!!
This would be an even better time to use a registry backup created by ERUNT, a luxury that is free-ware and works regardless of System Restore.
Interesting Reading, thanks to everybody who has replied. My tower is a custom build from a few years ago, although it was in for a complete system rebuild about 6mths ago. Like the gent with the Dell I have found that if I leave the recycle bin unchecked, then all my restore points stay (will monitor for longer to be sure), but if I tick the box then as if by magic they are all gone!!
Not sure what it all means, I also run eraser to shred files, Spysweeper & Norton 360 to keep a "clean" computer, both report no problems, and I find spysweeper very fussy.
