Regseeker vs Flash 9

1st post - go easy

I found my way here after posting for help elsewhere. I'd finally worked out that Regseeker was trashing Flash Player (took me a while :( )

However, the fix (I think) knackered my system!

I managed to work out how to use the back-up but...

Regseeker found over 1000 things to 'sort' - although I think I can explain why. I had been having problems with Microsoft.Net. that I couldn't fix and ignored, until something needed it! That was finally deleted when Microsoft support solved the issue and V2 is now on and working. Also, I finally gave up on Roxio (and all the masses of programs it installs) and am trying Nero. So I guess lots of deletes and a month since I'd run RegSeeker = lots of cleaning up?

The main issue before I put the registry back was blue screen/shut down (before I could read it) and false start up when I was trying to burn / back up discs. Windows media player couldn't find any burning devices loaded and neither could realplayer - and still can't even with registry restored. But by way of a test, Nero has just done a music CD and a huge data back up to DVD, so at least something is working. (Maybe it's 'stolen' control of the CD/DVD writers??) Maybe it wasn't regseeker but deleting Roxio?

How can I clean out all the rubbish but not knacker my system? (I notice there are different colours in what Regseeker wants to delete? What would that do? Also I've taken out the update which a previous post in this thread found for me and just cut and pasted in the bit for Flash - good plan or not??)

Sorry so many questions and a bit jumbled :(

Welcome to the CCleaner Forums!

Try out the RegSeeker customized exclude.ini file:

My best advice is if RegSeeker is overwhelming with the amount of stuff it's listing your best thing to do is discontinue using it. It can and will list valid things that shouldn't ever be messed with. If you don't have the patience of searching files and the registry to verify what it wants to remove then you're 100% better off without it because it will bite you on the bullocks if you're not careful with it.

Removing Roxio can cause CD/DVD drives to stop working when removed, I think it was in a thread on these forums where someone linked to a fix on Microsoft's website - sorry don't remember where that thread was.

Forgot to answer some of your other questions:

If RegSeeker messed up Adobe Flash Player 9 for Internet Explorer, or Microsoft.NET (and believe me it will if they're not excluded) you can simply re-install them over what's already installed to fix them.

check out registry mechanic or winaso registry optimiser.they decent and easy to use

Although I like and use Registry Mechanic it also has the ability to fubar some registry data. It's however completely up to the end-user to know that not everything listed is safe for removal, and even the safest registry cleaner can goof and list something valid.

The safest bet is to just use the CCleaner Issues scanner, it's not aggressive at all!

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I thought I'd try CCleaner instead, but every time I try to download it I get an error messahe saying IE (7) needs to close? Is this a related fault, something on this site, or something completely different??

Message says - AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 7.0.5730.11 ModName: mscoree.dll

ModVer: 2.0.50727.42 Offset: 00004c44

and then there's pages of stuff :(

Try a different browser that isn't based upon or use Internet Explorer's core files such as Opera, or Mozilla Firefox.

Of course you may have to repair/reinstall Internet Explorer if it's totally messed up.
