A registry error appeared recently that wouldn't go away on my XP computer. I reloaded everything after wiping the hard-drive and the registry error returned. How can I remove this persistent registry error and discover what program or software put it there without reloading everything from scratch and running CCleaner after every change to identify what brought the registry error onto my computer?
I have attached the screenshot identifying the persistent registry error that recently appeared for the first time.
I've seen those entries in CC registry cleaning when there was a file on your PC with a unique file extension that is no longer in use, hence the Unused File Extension 'error' you are getting.
Not an error per say, just CC letting you know that the Registry keeps a list of all extensions used on your PC and you now have one that is unused and can be 'cleaned'.
So, when you remove the registry entry and rerun the scan, does it reappear?
If so, that would indicate the file is still on the system somewhere (despite the 'unused file extension' logic), have you searched for the file?
pretty much what andavari said. Remember just because it comes up on the list does not mean that you definitely should (or even can) remove the entry. Read my signature for more information.
