Registry Cleanup - Advanced settings to protect Newbies

I have been using ccleaner for more than 5 years and the only time I have had a problem with it was the first time I used it and check-marked everything! Fortunately, I learned from my mistake and was brave enough to continue using this wonderful program! However, I still worry about my end users. As a consultant, I often install it and use it on my end users computers but worry that if my users try to use they too may shoot themselves in the foot as I did!

In googling "problems caused by ccleaner" I see that 99% of the problems appear to be self inflicted by users using the registry cleaner options that are by default not check-marked. I would like to recommend that the developers of ccleaner consider moving these options to an "Advanced" options button. When the user clicks on this advanced options button they should be warned that these options should only be used by people with a complete understanding of the options and that these options have the potential to create serious problems if not used properly. I realize that it is noted here and there but I think that moving them out of the normal checklist would not make them as tempting to use!

Kinda agree, but user's should use their brains & be more careful with these more often..

I haven't had any problems with the cleaner (even with Winapp2.ini & custom entries) or the registry cleaner, even all marks ticket/selected.

I have found that un-ticking the check for "Unused File Extensions" solves a lot.

Because in time past, it has on older versions of CCleaner, it has suggested such as .exe as safe for removal.

I am certain that you are aware of the problems it would cause not to be able to open files ending with .exe.

I believe they may have corrected that problem with newer versions, although I am not 100% certain. So I leave it unticked.

I know that in time past, this has been one of the more dangerous to leave checkmarked, & possibly the result of non-booting machines.

I've been using CC for 4 years now with never a problem until recently. In the last 3 wks my Windows Installer function has been corrupted and therefore useless resulting in a complete Vista OS restore, the first time, and a system point restore the second time. The folks at Dell Tech support strongly suggested that I stay away from any registry cleaner. Has anybody, out there, reported a similar problem with CC? I'm really spooked now.

Yes Stay away from registry cleaning, at least without following my signature's advice.

Next time, please start your own thread though.
