Registry cleaning a 64 bit OS

I use CCleaner as my main temp, junk, cache cleaner, but I haven't used the Registry cleaning part yet. I've done a little research and learned that some Registry cleaners are specifically designed to clean 64 bit registry's along with the 32 bit registry, but there are very few of the "true" x64 cleaners, even though many 32 bit ones claim they are compatible with x64.

So basically what I'm needing to know is, if you use CCleaner to clean your Registry, are you getting the full effect? In other words would the cleaner miss certain entries that are related to x64 because it's not a "true" 64 bit cleaner?

I have used one "Pure" x64 and x32 cleaner before, but in my opinion it was too aggressive.

I hope I explained this properly!

Hello Jan,

What OS and version are you using.

Be aware that some problems do exist in CCleaner with 64 bit platforms.

Other 64-bit users can give their advice if they know your setup.

Me personally I leave the Registry alone.

Some "cleaners" say I have 1000- 2000 "issues" "problems" whatever you want to call them . Some say 400-600. CCleaner reports very few.

I think someone wants my money more than anything else.

Since using CCleaner and forum advice and learning here my PC runs better than when I first got it.

No I don't do any Registry cleaning. Too risky and not worth the time in my case and MOST users case.

Best wishes,

:) davey

Davey..Thanks for replying..To tell you the truth, I'm not too crazy about registry cleaners anymore myself.

Actually, when I uninstall something, I have Total Uninstaller, which I trust to get rid of the the right registry keys related to that particular file. After that I use Registry Workshop to manually remove any leftovers I feel might be unneeded.(Yes I am knowledgeable enough to do do)

But I still am in the hunt for a fairly non-aggressive cleaner for Vista x64. I usually only about use it once and that's it. So far I have found only one true x64 Registry cleaner, CleanMyPc, and I think it's a little too aggresive.

I am currently running Vista Home Basic x64

By the way, what are the issues with CCleaner and x64?

That is a 64 Dollar, Pound, Euro question.

What operating systems does CCleaner work with?Fully tried and tested with Windows 98/NT4/ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista.

It's currently partially compatible with 64bit XP and Vista, there are a few non-critical issues which are still being worked on.

There are no Mac or Linux versions.

Maybe some of these Vista x64 users can reply.
