Registry Cleaner

Hi,

I installed CCleaner on a networked computer which was running almost inoperably. I used CCleaner

to try to delete temporary internet files but this was at 0% after 1 hour so I removed cookies etc.

from the main screen which was done relatively prompltly.

I cleaned the registry (fix all selected issues) and took a backup of the it when it was in SP2. I have now

done an SP3 install.

I am getting some funny messages on the command prompt at startup namely:

C:\Ver null
C:\Ver> find XP
C:\>\\w2kpdc\repl\import\scripts\alms.bat

The application or DLL C:\Program Files\McAfee\Virus Scan Enterprise\mfedhia.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

The following processes have therefore taken place:

1. CCleaner Registry cleaner run when computer in XP SP2. File of deletions backed up.

2. PC updated to SP3 - SP3 install does its own backup of the registry.

3. Messages as above are seen on start up. No further cleaning of registry takes place.

Are these problems anything to do with CCleaner or the SP3 install?

I'm wondering how safe it would be to double click on the backup file now (if it would resolve these problems and has necessarily been the cause of them), or if this is an unwise moved based on the upgrade from SP2 to SP3 and that SP3 may have rewritten parts of the registry...

Many Thanks for any help.

I think you are launching at startup the script

w2kpdc\repl\import\scripts\alms.bat

It seems to me probable that it is complaining about the version of the O.S.,

possibly because a w2k script never wanted to run under XP, and SP3 is too much to take ! !

I think you need to remove/replace the script.

I believe SP3 has far more significant effects than CC ever could.

You're probably right about this - do you know how to remove or replace these scripts?

I'm guessing most of these problems started after the SP3 install and don't have much to do with CCleaner.

Am wondering what to do with McAfee - maybe there is a repair option in Add/Remove Programs or I can untick it from msconfig startup items as a temporary measure.

Also if I remove SP3 do you think this may cause further problems?!

What about this? Will this work at this stage? : My link

With SP3 you get M.$. patch Tuesday updates,

without SP3 then you and Macafee are on your own ! !

I have no opinion on Macafee or what to do for it.

You may get useful info from a macafee user forum.

When I searched \repl\import\scripts\alms.bat I got "About 2,540,000 results"

and the first two links wanted to download PDF's about Adobe.

I see a clue suggesting that Adobe is launched on startup and this is responsible for the strange message.

Does Adobe launch on start-up.

I am definitely your man if you want a strong opinion about Adobe Bloatware ! ! !

If you tell us what items CCleaner lists under Tools / Startup that might give a clue upon what is responsible for alms.bat.
