After making back up, how do you restore file to registry?

Right click the backup file and select 'Merge'

(PS Beginners guide is HERE ;) )

Thanks to all. found info and now will try it.

When I right-click and "merge," the file opens in Notepad.

This is in safe mode, because whatever CCleaner "fixed" in my registry has made booting normally impossible. And System Restore won't work, either.

Needless to say, I could use some help here.

1. Run RegEdit itself via: Start -> Run -> Regedit

2. In RegEdit click File -> Import, then browse to the .reg file you wish to have imported into the registry.

3. To get .reg files working as per default you can download 374. Restore the .reg file. It's the one on the right side of 374 on that page, you'll or course have to use the instructions in #1 and #2 to import it. Then restart Windows to see if you can right click or double click .reg files to import them.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot just as soon as I've backed all my docs off my main drive in preparation for blowing it all up and starting over...

Thanks, this worked like a charm. Now if I could only figure out why my computer keeps freezing...
