Recuva closing and disappears while scanning

I’m trying to recover a few MKV files that I deleted in the recycle bin. When I use Recuva, it suddenly disappears when scanning and the window that I see in many videos doesn’t pop up. How might I fix this?

I had two different apps (not Recuva) suddenly close on me like that yesterday at different times.
(One was a duplicate finder in the middle of a scan, so scanning or just accessing the drive may be a common factor).

One second running fine in their own window the next second the window just closed, no warning, no error message, just closed for no discernable reason that I could see.

After the second instance I did a ‘Restart’ of my machine and it not happened again since then.
(Restart not Shutdown, they do different things).

My thinking is maybe there’s an odd glitch in the June Windows update??

i just gotta accept im not getting those files back then

Not necessarily, just try again. (If you are doung a Deep Scan then try doing a 'Standard scan instead).

Of course it is always possible that the drive itself is faulty but you didn’t mention anything like that, only that you had deleted the files.

If it still quits on you then you could try cutting down the scan so that it doesn’t find as much each time.
eg. instead of searching for all files, or all pictures, cancel the Wizard and instead use the advanced options then specify a wildcard name such as **.jpeg to only find jpeg files, or something even more specific like all files with the word hoilday in the name.
