Recovering not deleted but overwritten file.

I 've spent some time browsing the Internet to find a solution but without success. May be some of you will have have any experience with this.

My daughter accidentaly copied the file from USB to Hard Drive instead of Hard Drive to USB and she overwritten the actuall PPT Presentation on the Hardrvie with the old version from USB. There is a lot of work done between these two versions.

Is there any way how to recover the version on the hard drive?

I have tried to find any info how the copy/overwrite actually works on Windows 7 but no success.

The Shadow Copy on WIndows 7 is turned off.

Thanx for help,

Martin

Look at this first - http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/908996-solved-emergency-need-recover-overwritten.html - I think there is a restore option in PPT depending on the version, but whether it covers overwritten files I doubt.

If not,if the clusters allocated to the hd file have been overwritten then there's no chance of recovering the overwritten data from those clusters.

If the usb file was a different size from the hd file then I can't be sure, but I think that Win will overwrite the hd file clusters first and put any additional clusters elsewhere. In this case the above applies.

However, there may be edit or autobackup or defrag copies of the hd file still in existence. Do as little as possible on the pc on the c drive or wherever the hd file is. Download Recuva portable to another drive or partition and run that against the c drive. If no luck then try a deep scan.

If the hd file is large and in several fragments then there's less chance of recovering it complete. I think your chances are slim, but give it a go.

It happened today morning and soon after it we left home. So this should be ok.

Thanx for help. I will take a look and hope it works.
