I have recently used Recuva to find some accidently deleted avi files from a camera memory card. The job was done but I cant open the files now with VLC player. Any help appreciated.

Also make sure the files are carrying the correct file extension. It is possible that the recovered files haven't been recovered 100% intact for the reasons mentioned in that linked to post.

Programs like this can do limited repairs on AVI files such as rebuild frames, and at the very least they may tell you what exactly is wrong with the file.
Thanks for trying to help, but i've tried all the programs and nothing will repair the files. Most say the files are not video files even though the extension (.avi) exists.
I've nothing else to offer you at the moment I'm afraid.
If one of those programs would have at least allowed any of the files to load, especially VirtualDubMod or AviDemux, you could have saved off new versions.
