Hello there, well i know recuva says it is not recommended to recover files to the same directory/hd, however, i'm trying to recover files from a external hdd of 1tb (the files i need are about 120gb in total) and i just don't have enough space in my others hd to make the recovery there, that's the reason i bought the external hd in the first place, because i was running out of hd space.
So the thing is, can i do it in the same disk but a different folder? Should i do it? What are the pros/cons of doing it? What do you advice me to do in this situation?
Thanks.
---EDIT---
I've just read the "understanding windows deletion" here:
The Cons of doing this are you will most likely overwrite what you are trying to recover, it's not a matter of how much drive is left, it's a matter of where windows places the recovered file(s) on the magnetic platters and a majority of time that location is the spot of at least some of the files you are, at the same time rewriting.
The Pros of doing this are. . . . there are no pros, it is an act of last resort.
Any sort of active writing to the HDD causes overwriting to happen, so you can be sure that overwriting will happen if you recover to the same drive.
