Recovered files not appearing

I used recuva to scan a hard drive to recover files. The scan finds the files I am looking for. I select to recover the files I need, and select a destination folder. Recuva runs and says that all files were fully recovered. However, when I go to the destination folder, the recovered files are nowhere to be found. Any ideas on what this might mean?

Edit:

I am running Windows Vista (64-bit). The files are on the D: drive, I am trying to recover them to my Desktop (on the C: drive). The drive I am recovering from is an SATA hdd hooked up via USB through an external enclosure. The drive does show up in my computer, but I cannot use explorer to browse it (hence I am using Recuva). The files I am trying to recover are pdf files. If this is not enough information, please let me know.

Can you give more info please, more folk may reply to you then.

Info such as which operating system you use, were the files on C drive and where you were recovering them too.

Was it a USB flash drive for example and does it show up in ''my computer''
