I have recovered the BAK files of my Google Chrome Bookmarks from Recuva which i had by accident deleted. The BAK files are however unreadable. Please help on this as i have searched everywhere on this but no help.
The BAK files are backup files of what ?... BAK is a pretty generic extension used for anything from backup programs to Outlook PST backups.
Do you have any an idea what the 'original' file was used for.
Also, alas, I don't think there is a guarantee that recovered files are always readable, it depends on the deletion method, device usage while deleted, recovery process, and a bunch of other stuff.
They are backup of Chrome bookmarks. The Default user in Chrome was deleted by mistake and so did the bookmarks along with them.
Sorry Lavence, this is where I will have to leave you and wait for another member to help you.
I'm not a Chrome user.
But, in theory, the BAK file will probably need to be imported into Chrome (but I guess you would have tried that avenue).
Or if you are lucky, most browsers export their bookmarks/favourites in a TXT or HTML formatted file.
So maybe simply try renaming the BAK extension to TXT or HTML to see if you can read it then.
