recovered document has no text, mostly pound signs

I just recovered an ODT document I had accidentally deleted from the recycling bin. It said it's "excellent", but there is just the title of the file and a whole bunch of symbols, mostly pound signs. When I open it, Open Office prompts me to choose ASCII Filter Options. I don't really know what that means, so I left it on the default: Western Europe (Windows-1252/WinLatin 1). This is a little of what the first line says:

########<1######àl¤Aû¦Î#C#:#\#U#s#e#r#s#\

It doesn't seem like the content was actually recovered. Could someone tell me if there's an chance at all to recover it?

Thanx.

Hi Isis4, and welcome to Piriform.

Until someone comes up with something better, all I can suggest is to make a copy of that recovered file, and then open the copy with Open Office and follow the suggested recommendation re ASCII Filter Options.

Let us know if that makes a difference.
