Question about the Hotfix Unistallers?

I recently scanned my PC and checked the Hotfix Uninstaller box. There is a ton of crap in there. If I delete these entries, will it adversely effect my PC?

If any one knows for sure please let me know. Thanks.

The so called "Hotfix Uninstallers" are the executables allowing to uninstall

the Windows Updates. Cleaning them you will be no more able to uninstall

any Windows Update, if needed. Of course this doesn't uninstall any Windows

Update, just their uninstallers.

:)

after you clean those files, you will no longer be able to uninstall any windows updates you have made to your PC.

in other words, if you are 100% sure all your Hotfixes are working properly, and there's no reason why you would need to uninstall them, go ahead and clean those files. once cleaned out, the windows updates are stuck on your computer forever and can't be uninstalled

those uninstall files take up a -lot- of space, especially if your hard drive is on the small size..

so it's good to clean them out, just be aware, you can't uninstall Hotfixes after that

So what is the purpose of having these clog up your hard drive? When can you be sure a particular HOTFIX is working or not?

the purpose of the files are: they allow you to uninstall Hotfixes.

if those files are cleaned/deleted, you can't uninstall Hotfixes. meaning the hotfixes are stuck on your computer forever. since those hotfixes are going to be stuck on your computer forever, better make sure they are working properly first!

When can you be sure a particular HOTFIX is working or not?

people usually wait for a certain amount of time.. I would wait about a month.. and if your computer isn't getting any weird errors, I would say it is safe.

so.. if you installed all of your windows updates, lets say, a year ago.. and your computer is working fine (no weird errors) it is most likely safe to clean out those uninstall files :)

( I explained as best as I could. I hope I make sense! )

Recently I've reinstalled my WinXP Home using the recovery CD without formating my machine. But now I'm unable to install any update/fixes from Windows Update. Is this issue related to allowing CCleaner removing these files?

ls5

I don't see how they can be related.. you should still be able to install new Hotfixes

and I'm pretty sure you keep all your Hotfixes if you reinstall WinXP (without reformatting)

I did that and I didn't have to reinstall all my updates again

For Windows update you need at least Windows XP SP1 or later. So if you have Windows XP without service packs, after installation you have to install a service pack.

SP2 can be downloaded from Microsoft.
