I get an error "Unable to overwrite special file type" when trying to erase a file with the name of "Outlook Express emails.zip" How can I remove that entry in the $mft ??
If I actually try to recover it, it comes back as a 0-length file. I'm wondering how to get rid of it entirely. And why won't recuva do a secure delete on it? What is telling recuva it's a special file type? It contains no important data. I assure you.
I also have exactly that file in Recuva, the file (if it actually exists, I don't know) can't be deleted by Recuva.
It's not an entry in the MFT and it doesn't actually exist. It's deleted emails (as one might guess) and recovery will resurrect the deleted emails in I believe a zip file. I can't remember exactly how it does it, I have recoevered one just to try it, you'll either have to have a go or in desperation look at the documentation.
