Problem with Registry Files recovery

Hi,

Please be gentle with me I'm a newbie and desperate for some help!

I used ccleaner to try and speed my computer up a bit, looked around the forums and found this to be highly recommended.....

I followed all the instructions....backed up my registry files.

After running ccleaner I found I couldn't play some games that require flash player so I went to my back up and restored the files (eventually....as I had to sort out the file association problem first that I've seen discussed on here previously)

The games still won't work, I've uninstalled flash player, reinstalled it, restarted my computer umpteen times, ran system restore twice....nothing is making any difference. The games site I use doesn't detect the flash player even though it is installed...I have tried other things like checking my internet options to make sure flash was enabled, any ideas?

I don't know much about computers but I can manage with easy instructions !!!

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as I don't know what to do next :(

Have a try at unticking adobe/macromedia flash under ccleaner applications tab.

Sorry, thats one of the things I've tried, I can't list them all cos I spent all day trying all different things, I can't even remember most of them...!

I unticked that and ran ccleaner again but I think the damage was done by then?

When I restored the registry files from the back up, is there a way I can check that the restore worked properly and that all the files are back as they should be?

Bump! I still need some help! :(

Well, you could look at the contents of the registry backup file, if it still exists, with wordpad and then check whether the entries in there are back in the registry, but it would be a thankless task. I think you have to assume that a merge of the beckup file has been successful, barring any messages or indications to the contrary. Unfortunately I am one of the world's worst Flash or games expert, so I can't help much there.

Thanks for that, I'll try that tomorrow when I'm not as tired!

Can I just ask, I know where to find my back up file but I'm not sure how to I view a list of my current registry files on the computer so that I can cross check?

I'll await your instructions before I dabble anymore!

You'll have to dig into the registry with regedit. Looking is fairly harmless, but tamper with care.

Have you installed (or re-installed) the flash player on all the browsers you use?

yes, uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted, uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted etc....you know the drill!!!
