Having downloaded CCleaner I now find that every time I launch google chrome the Piriform site automatically loads and automatically start downloading ccleaner again. Anyone know how to stop that happening please.
First thing I would try is to uninstall ccleaner and reboot. Then see if Chrome opens okay again.
Next I would download ccleaner slim build from here
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds
Download it to your desktop or downloads folder (do not run it from the website..select save not run) then install it and try to open Chrome again. What happens now?
What operating system are you using?
Hi
Thanks for replying and for your help.
I have uninstalled ccleaner ) no longer showing on desk top or in list of programmes) and have even done system restore back to a week ago but the damn piriform is still there when I open Chrome. i am on windows 7. It appears that somehow piriform has attached itself to google chrome so that when I launch chrome it opens a tab at the top that goes to google search page but also opens a separate tab that opens piriform and starts the automatic download. not had anything like this before.
Any other ideas
Thanks again
I don't have Google Chrome, but it sounds like you may have saved the browsing session of when you originally downloaded CCleaner.
If so, Chrome is reloading that session each time you launch it, which is taking you to the "active" downloading page of CCleaner.
Or another (less likely) possibility is that you've somehow configured the CCleaner download page as your "Home Page"?
Or, you have your browser set to "Start From Last Time", and the CCleaner download page was the last time.
Not having Chrome I don't know the exact process for checking the "Session Saves", or how to check what Chrome is configured to start with, such as "Start With Home Page", or "Start From Last Time" (words to that effect), so if you're unsure yourself, I'm sure one of our Google Chrome users on here will help you with that.
Dennis, I am inclined to believe that Chrome is remembering the last session on close, & re-opens to the download link.
However, it is also possible that his homepage is set to the download location, or that he has it set to open the last page on start, as you stated above.
Another possibility, is that his Chrome user settings have gotten corrupted, somewhat.

I too think this is the case. close and make sure all instances (task manager processes tab) of chrome are closed. use ccleaner to clean chrome sessions only (right click chrome sessions choose clean)
open chrome
