Performance Optimizer - Something went wrong popup

On my Windows 11 PC I keep getting the "Performance Optimizer - Something went wrong" popup.

I have searched everywhere but I have yet to find an answer and I see this issue has been raised before with no result.

Even CCleaner customer "support" can't help me.

The CCleaner email server rejects the log file they asked for.

Then they say it is inverstigating the issue with Skype - as if it was the issue I reported.

I unistalled skype years ago.

Can anybody shed some light on this?

When you send the log put it in a zip file first.

"Years ago" was presumably Windows 10? Is this a machine that has been updated from Win 10 to Win 11?

Skype is a 'standard' part of Windows 10 installs nowadays, so it could be leftovers from that old uninstall that is causing your issue.

ie. Windows now expects Skype to usually be there. (or Teams if you have Windows 11).

Skype is a standard component of Windows 10 major updates. So in that sense, it is part of Windows 10. Similar to Microsoft Teams being a part of Windows 11. Skype can be prevented from starting and it can be uninstalled but if you perform any major Windows 10 updates or repair Windows 10, it may be reinstalled.

Try reinstalling Skype to see if that cures the PO issue for you. It's Free in the Microsoft Store.

If not then just uninstall Skype again.

If it does fix your issue then just leave Skype there and ignore it - like you do with a lot of the bloat that Windows installs but you will never use.

If you do decide to install it and leave it there ignored then:

In Skype select the three-dot menu on the main page. Go to Settings > General > toggle the Automatically Start Skype switch to Off.

In Windows go to Settings > Apps > Startup > Toggle it off for Skype

The laptop came with Windows 11 and is not an upgrade from W10.

I know how to turn Skype off.

This is NOT a Skype issue - I just received an email from "support" apologising for assuming it was a Skype issue, but they still have no fix for it.
