pendrive corrupted and the software failed to scan

my pendrive get corrupted and was asked by the computer to format it.. i didn't do so and try to use this software to restore my data inside but the software stated " failed to scan the following drive"... what should I do? should I format my pendrive first? thank you

Hi joey, and welcome to the forum.

Doing a "quick format" on the drive may do the trick, but I never like asking folk to format a drive (even just a quick format) without looking at making a backup of the drive first.

To that end, how big is the drive? The freeware I have in mind will make a back-up Image the same size as the drive.

USB Image Tool 1.64:

There are ways to attempt a repair to a corrupt drive, but once again, a back-up is essential as this isn't an exact science and things can go wrong.

A back-up Image can be restored to the drive to try again.

If you want to chance a "Quick Format" (NOT a full format), then that will initialize the file system and enable it to be scanned, and you will need to check the box for "Scan for non-deleted files" in "Options\Actions".

Does the drive have a letter at the moment and can Windows see it?

thank you for your reply, my pendrive is 4gb and i didn't have back up... my windows can see it and the drive was given letter "H" but the computer cannot open and it stated that the pendrive needed to be format as the files might have corrupted. Hope you can give me some solutions to recover my data. THX

If you have a drive letter then that gives us another option, and that is to scan the drive with a program which can scan raw data, which is the way Windows is seeing your drive at the moment.

If Recuva can't scan your drive, and I'm assuming you have tried to scan with Recuva, then have a try with "Lazersoft Data Recovery" which will scan raw data on a corrupt drive.

Lazersoft Recovery Suite Home: (Free)

Try the "File Recovery" option first, and let us know how you get on. You could always try the "Partition Recovery" option if you have no success with the file recovery.

I guessed you didn't have a back-up joey. The idea was to make a back-up Image of your drive as it is now, and to restore the Image if any "repair" attempts failed to then try something else.

However, as you have a drive letter, then we don't need to do that at the moment as Lazersoft won't try to write anything to your drive.

Have you tried a deep scan with Recuva (without scan for non-deleted files checked)? I recently had an Windows-unreadable disk and Recuva deep scan worked fine. It's worth a try.
