What I mean is to have CCleaner search the disk for files with the user-specified extension(s) and delete them.

I was trolling through the forums looking for good and bad ideas and ran across this. I would 3rd this suggestion, specifically .BAK .TMP .DMP etc - some powerusers know for sure that all .TMP files are trash and are willing to risk data loss with this feature - user beware, but feature enabled.
and MRU & Adware ware or may be Adware ware you Pick. Don't kill hot fix for 30 days go to new with XP get hot fix 80 not go to take off as you need to take new before old be a big job.
There are freeware software titles that deal with hunting down specific junk file extensions on the hard disk such as; .bak and .tmp. A search on a reputable download site will reveal them.

Because that type of functionality could damage users computers if used incorrectly and CCleaner is designed to be a safe cleaner.
