Notification Balloons

This is a matter I've just lived with and not bothered with,but...A couple of years ago or so, I noticed that the notification balloons of my Task bar were no longer appearing. They still appear in the other user account on our computer....When I right-click an icon I still get the menus and everyone functions fine. But when I hear the "ping" from, let's say Windows Defender or Spybot S&D, no balloon is visible and I can't read or respond to it....I use Ad-Aware,WinPatrol and Avast Anti-virus also and none say anything about any tampering...Any thoughts?

Maybe a registry setting is messed up in your profile. You could always create a new profile for yourself, then copy your files over to it. Surprisingly doing that when something is severely wrong with a profile registry in HKCU can help to prevent reinstalling Windows.

Is Hide inactive icons checked?

YoKenny...Yes it is...On both user accounts.

Un-check it.

Hide or Unhide Notification Area (System Tray) Icons in Windows XP

http://www.xp-tips.com/hide-system-tray.html <== works the same way for Vista

Scroll down to PastIconsFlusher:

http://raproducts.org

try this:

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\"

new -> REG_DWORD -> "EnableBalloonTips"

Set value to 1

should enable the balloon tips once again if thats what you're talking about.

Mal'Content what system are you using?

Thats a great news. Its the most annoying feature on WinXP.

I downloaded a reg file from a link that Davie supplied that was supposed to do that on WinXP but it doesn't work. ;)

Thats the one Hazel, I'm glad you remembered it. I have the link saved at home.

Yes that disableall.reg didn't work work for me on WinXP. ;)

Thanks for the responses to all...I'm using Windows XP SP3.And the matter is not with the tip/ID balloons that come up when you place your cursor over the icons. They're O.K.It's when a program tries to inform me of something it's just preformed and I can't see if I have to respond or if it's just a note....I might add that I always keep my Task Bar on 'Hide' and the way I know that something's up is that the bar comes up,I hear a "Bloop", and, lets say, the icon for Windows Defender has appeared but it's notification balloon has not.
