Not performing secure delete?

I recently installed a new HDD with XP Pro SP3 and have CCLEANER installed on my c drive as usual - I have one partition on my C drive called G:\Extra and use this for file downloads and deletion in a folder called 'new folder' - under my old CCLEANER install with Guttmans 3 passes selected it used to take some time for each file to delete and this was visible in the display box of CCLEANER, however since installing CCLEANER on my new drive it now cleans the 'new folder' but wizzes through with no indication that a proper deletion has taken place ??

Its definitely in the 'included' section and 3 passes are selected for secure files/subfolders deletion - why is it deleting stuff so quick now ?? Its like its stuck on simple clean? I've tried a reinstall and use version 3.08

Any ideas?

Mick

I'ved noticed for a very long time actually that anything over One-Pass seems to be skipped or not working. However; on modern drives you only need to use One-Pass, just look around the forums for reasons why as it's been discussed allot.

Thanks for the response Andavari - although a new HDD its the same make and model as my old just a bigger size, my XP installations the same and my old CCLeaner always did a thorough delete? Dont get it ?

Mick, in Cleaner/Windows/Advanced right-click on Custom Files etc and select Analyse. What type of deletion method does the analysis say, and are files in your New Folder listed? (Load some dummy files in New Folder if necessary.)

So, what exactly is CCleaner doing if you have 3 passes selected and it's "not working". Should I just set it for one pass?

It would seem like it just zips through removing junk files as if secure deletion were turned off. This is more easily tested if there's a large file in the Recycle Bin, otherwise it may not even be obvious.

Mounting partitions or drives within a path on a standard partition is something I vaguely recall as a clever trick that would do my head in.

Is that what you are doing ?

Or do you mean that your Primary HDD has partitions C:\ (which is not being deleted) and G:\,

and all you want is to zap the contents on the destination G:\Extra\New Folder\*.* ?

Sorry not got back sooner had Password probs now sorted!!

I checked 'analyze' and it says i'm set on NSA (7 passes) - it doesnt matter what deletion option I choose or how many files are in my 'new folder' CCleaner just wizz's thru it in seconds with no hint of the long deletion times I used to get ?? The folders always empty afterwards but have they been securely deleted ?? I reckon the recycle bin would take longer !!

Just dont understand why CCLeaner worked perfectly well on my old HDD but doesnt seem to be up to job on my new one ??
