not ending program

hello,

CC is not leaving this state for some time now (few hours). It shows it is running, but the %'s don't seem to change.

anything I am missing?

Up to date Windows Xp, got both IE and Firefox on my pc, but I don't think this can be an issue?

What happens if i cancel? I already did this one time because it wouldn't leave this state.. does this mean that 36 runs have wiped my pc anyway, and now again 36 (free space wipe)? So that part is covered? Or does CC somehow cancels these 36 runs on my empty space? this would have to mean that is saves 36 layers of info? or just the bottom layer somehow? Is this possible?

I got a windows message that my C-drive is lacking any free space. Never seen that one before. (don't know the exact message from windows, but it warned me of having no room left on C... 5,7 BG of the 21 Gb) does CC use C to backup stuff, and now can't buckup because of this?

thanks for any hints.

It's a known bug I'm afraid. It doesn't happen everytime one runs Wipe Freespace but the bug is there all right and CCleaner's developers are working on it.

If you clicked the "Run Cleaner" button CCleaner will have wiped everything that it came across before it stopped. So yes, that part is covered.

The message about lacking free space you can safely disregard. That was XP misinterpreting CCleaner's activity on the free part of the disk as used space. Which of cause it's not. CCleaner only occupied the territory temporarily.

Cancelling CCleaner should not affect your system in anyway.

hmm, I've got a hunch it must be searched in the corner of me using programs in random order like:

-Fileguard

-HjackThis

-Glary Utilities

-Startup manager

-wise disk cleaner

-wise registry cleaner

-revo unistaller

-avast (free) antivirus

-auslogics disk defrag and normal windows defrag

-using a password and having a adm account (which I'm running it on) and a gast-acc

-screen saver control (a program screensaver utillity)

using all free (`Gratis` is Dutch for `Free`) spyware removers from this site:

http://www.gratissoftwaresite.nl/tips/gebr...pyware+software

using 2 of these programs might kill a valid string of bits of a program/file because they roughly do the same thing a different way?

-I had spyware blaster shield on, but since I dissed it, it might be uninportant

-maybe a strange flash player interferance? (longshot, but I'm just noobing here)

also possible that my setting of Avast antivirus were to high? (highest level of scanning/guard)

should this all be examined? (Lot of work, lol  )

It is possible that these could have contributed to the problem:

- Glary Utilities

- Wise Disk Cleaner

- Wise Registry Cleaner

- Revo unistaller

I wouldn't use any of them myself as they have the potential to ruin a PC. Piriform's CCleaner and the one inside the free Microsoft online scanner OneCare are the only safe ones. HijackThis is an expert's tool and shouldn't be used without assistance.

I use Defraggler from Piriform for defragmenting. I manage startup from inside CCleaner. I also run SpywareBlaster. FileGuard I don't know much about.

If you have all the free anti-malware programs from GratisSoftwareSite.nl installed your PC is at hard work. I think you should ask for advise about what programs to run in Piriform Forums Spyware Hell here: http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showforum=12

hello.

the site with the free anti-spyware advices to only run one of these on the background, and one antvirus program, since they all (exept spyware blaster) eat a little chunk of the memory. I only have avast on the background, and don't run the others at all on the back. just once a weak one at a time. and they all found different stuff, so I keep on using them all. (they all have a different kind of field speciality)

the smart programs only remove the save (they flag it green) registry problems and so. things that can not be reversed or are unsave to remove (the orange flagged) , they keep on the pc, so I think that sounded like they thought about stuff.

but using different of these registry editors and data-glue-ers after another might be tricky I guess? no restoring possible I think when Murphy comes into play.

Note: Wipe free space has had glitches on some PC's but could also be related to the different registry cleaning apps you use.

Green isn't always safe to remove you should still manually check what the entry is referencing and know that it is uninstalled.

Maybe try a system restore to a previous date that everything worked: Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore
