Not Cleaning some element + How to automate so ccleanres ned no Input

Hello,
Not too keen on this Version. After cleaning some element returned

and after a few repeats, it actually does seem to clean.

This means that the entire cleaning operation requires manual intervention to continue.

This Programme is a step backwards.

I hope this will be addressed very soon, a pity because the previous Version worked well, I would prefer also to open a ticket rather than go onto a Forum.

No it only means one or more could not be cleaned., if you click the three dot button next to it a list will come up. Clicking on these links will do one of two things. 1 nothing, this means the file is deleted. 2 open explorer, this means the file was not removed.
I have asked, in an unpublished post in the ideas portal, for some difference between cleaned and not cleaned, if you do the same maybe it will be published or at least shown to the developers.

Wrong, it does need a manual input to continue. I know that more elements could not be cleaned - see the Image I loaded up.

No werroe why it could not be cleaned.

Not a help.

Nergal is correct.

The “Unable to clean” message merely means that some of the files could not be cleaned (because they were open).
If you hover over one of the red messages, or information symbols, it clearly tells you that:

CCleaner will get those open files next times that it is run - if they are closed then.
Of course there will ALWAYS be some files that are open and so cannot be cleaned.

Note that older versions of CCleaner behaved in exactly the say way, they couldn’t clean files that were open - They just didn’t tell you about it like CCleaner7 now does.
The reason why the older versions didn’t tell you is simply because if/when they do tell you about it then people get confused and ask why it isn’t cleaning.

Which is exactly what has happened here with this thread.

Jeez, I say that but I’m looking for a reason, not an obvious remark that it could not clean. System, Firefox and another program could not be cleaned - although closed, they could not be closed. I want the reason why not , System I can understand but closed programmes not. The previous edition made no messages, or the previous version was not correctly cleaned.

The answer is quite simple and has already been stated:

Files that are already open cannot be cleaned , they cannot be edited, or deleted.

That’s just how computers work.

System files that are open cannot be cleaned. (Previous CCleaner versions just skipped them without telling you).
Browser files that are open cannot be cleaned. (Previous CCleaner versions told you that they had been skipped).

A common reason for CCleaner skipping browser files (and other application files) is because the browser, or one of it’s extensions, (or the other application) is still running in the background after you think that you have closed it.
Sometimes you need to wait a while after closing a browser before it is fully closed. (My Firefox on my Windows 10 laptop would sometimes take 20 seconds or so to fully close).

If a browser or app isn’t beng cleaned then check in Task Manager if it is still running.

eg in this screenshot Firefox is still open so CCleaner v6.39 shows cleaning as ‘Skipped’:

In this screenshot Firefox is also still open - CCleaner7 skips the cleaning but shows ‘Unable to clean’:
