This is not a bug report but was a "Just Wondering Report." When I run "CCleaner" what drivers does it clean? A to Z? The reason I ask is because a couple of times I was running CCleaner & it was deleteing files on my zip drive and or my Western Digital Ext HD that was still pluged in. Did I miss a warning? Is this normal? Will it hurt them? Or was it just deleting the recycle bin in the ext drives?
Other then that, all I know is that I been using CCleaner for like oh wow seems like years now. I probably use it like 5 to 10 times or more a day, just a habit now. Like when I start my day, or take a break or lunch or a nap at the desk, oooops hope the boss don't read this. Wait, the boss is lucky he can turn on the computer, (i had to write down the instructions).
I love this CCleaner for a long time now.
Oh I have been having a problem with start list icons going blank, I unchecked the box for that and it seems to be ok now. guess CCleaner cleans a bit too much.LOL Thanks e1 great work.
The only way CCleaner can delete anything from a zip drive or an external hard drive, is by manually entering files or folders into the "Include" section, and then checking the "Custom Files And Folders" box in "CCleaner\Windows\Advanced" for the "Include" to work.
It's hard wired to scan only the system partition which is invariably the C: drive.
Does anyone else use the PC and could have entered some "Included" items into CCleaner (Options\Include)?
Do you run any other software which could be deleting stuff from your drives?
And I'm assuming that you're using a legitimate version of CCleaner as there are some pretty nasty "clones" out there.

um The System Partition does not necessarily have to be the C: Drive if a person is running mulitple operating systems the C: drive is usually used up by which ever operating system is installed first and is not necessarily the one he is running CCleaner from. a person can also change the drive letter of there system partition even if they are only running one operating system although it is difficult and fairly uncommon.
However having said that DennisD is correct in saying that CCleaner by default only looks in and therefor only Cleans the system partition which is usually the C: Drive. so it shouldn't be deleting files from anywhere else unless you told it too.
Humm Thanks yes what you say sounds right and thats what i thought too. But I'll have my laptop and the westernal Digital HD pluged in and if I forget to unplug it, and I run CCleaner ...... wooo the HD comes alive and starts churnning and running. No Nobody but me can use any of my computers, (an IT thing I guess, want to see e1 else's computer but mine is mine...LOL) No I never entered a include or exclude files. I just did it again just now by mistake and ccleaner deleted 1,500 items, but I went and looked at the HD and it seems that nothing is missing. Can it be that there is a recycle bin in the Western Digital HD that CC is cleaning and not the real files in it. I just ordered another HD as a backup to this one just in case, but i Really would like to know what CCleaner is doing to the HD. And a note to future users of CCleaner, this is not a problem, CCleaner is a GREAT program I love it and, and oh heck I don't know what would happen if CCleaner ever stopped working. For you future users, download it, it's fast, through, and just plain out does a great job. I run it like countless times a day because it is so quick and easy and cleans it all, DOWNLOAD IT!
I also use "The ultimate Troubleshooter" for my tasks and startups ect. It also has a cleanup (Housecleaner) which by the way is much slower then CCleaner, but before I can run it, I have to do a check-off list which includes disconnecting all external HD programs ect. Maybe they all check hd's
Thanks e1, please let me know what ya think of this post response. Am I on the right track?
Ok new note: I went and checked CClean settings and it shows C: D: F: G: boxes, C: OS and G: HD. But only the C: OS is checked off. So I can't understand why CCleaner is reading and deleting my G: HD. Oh and I set to see Hidden files and found nothing for G: HD but stupid me I checked properties and saw under tools "Disk Cleanup" which when ran showed 36Gig in a recycle bin on the HD. So yes I belive CCleaner is by default cleaning ALL recycle bins weather checked off or not. Which is not a problem for me. I just wanted to be assured that it is not wipping out my backups on the HD.
Thanks again everyone for your quick answers. And to you "Piriform" you have some great applactations. I love them all. And not because they are free, but because they work better then the ones you pay for. Thanks again e1.
Oh I forgot to tell ya, I running Windows-7 Pro on a few Dell Inspiron Laptops.
CCleaner isn't deleting stuff from your other drives, as I first thought from your initial post, but stuff that you've deleted from those drives.
Each drive has it's own "Recycler" folder, but they are all part of the one Recycle Bin, usually on the System Drive.
It may be an important distinction to people who may think it's only stuff deleted from the System Drive that's deleted by CCleaner. Stuff from all drives is sent to the big Recycle Bin in the sky.
Reconnected usb drive and now Ccleaner is seeing the contents of recycle bin on usb drive.
I have the check box clered for all but C drive

There is no "checkbox cleared for all but c drive" except for wipefreespace
that said
the reason for this is that Recyclebin is a special folder that uses a redirect (deep in the windows code) so that when you empty (or look at) the Recycle Bin on the desktop it handles all drives with recyclebin thus when you attach the usbdrive Windows sees things in the recyclebin for that drive and "adds" them to the recyclebin (the one that ccleaner peers into)
