CCleaner user for a long time. Noticed on all my computers that newer versions don't work properly. Maybe "hang" isn't the right term but it takes forever to clean being the main problem. Much longer than it should.
I go back to a previous version (5.23.5808 seems to work for me) and it works fine. This happened with both 5.24 and 5.25. If it was on one machine I wouldn’t have made this connection but since it is happening on different machines I have to think something is not right with these latest versions.
Hoping the next update resolves this.
edit: I didn’t mention that I have Win 10 AU on all computers. I just spent some time trying to figure this out and I seem to be having the problem with older versions as well. I can clean the computer and immediately use the program again and it gets stuck cleaning. The only thing that will get it to work is a restart of the computer or an uninstall/reinstall of the program. I do think there is a problem with this program and its interaction with Windows 10.
Yes you are correct.I have been using Ccleaner for several years as a wonderful software. I recently upgraded my computer to Windows 10 and Ccleaner was working fine with it. Unfortunately after the last update I found that the ccleaner does not support. You may find this and update your review. My version of windows 10 pro is 10.014393 Build 14393 (x64 bit)
Thank you for your review I know that they would fix it. Everywhere most of the versions of Windows were automatically upgraded to windows 10 by Microsoft. I hope most of the Ccleaner users have got the same problem.
My experience (for what it's worth) on Win7 32 bit (and I mostly use Chrome, rarely use IE, but do use Thunderbird):
Using Ccleaner 5.20 - runs fine.
Update to 5.24 (and subsequently to 5.26), Ccleaner stalls for quite a while while cleaning IE History, but eventually completes. Note that IE not running (most of the time it won't have been launched since boot).
If I uncheck History under Internet Explorer, Ccleaner zooms along fine.
But what is interesting (to me at least) is if I use Control Panel, Internet Options, Delete.... to delete IE History, that zooms straight through it - so why can't Ccleaner?
Does any of that shed any light (on a possible Ccleaner solution)?
"But what is interesting (to me at least) is if I use Control Panel, Internet Options, Delete.... to delete IE History, that zooms straight through it - so why can't Ccleaner?"
I have discovered the same behavior, and have also returned to V5.22 hoping this will be fixed eventually. I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 btw.
Seems this issue has still not been addressed. Just upgraded to latest (5.33.6162) and problem still occurs, so have had to leave Internet Explorer - History unchecked.
Does anyone have any update on this issue at all?
Please note what I said in earlier posting "But what is interesting (to me at least) is if I use Control Panel, Internet Options, Delete.... to delete IE History, that zooms straight through it - so why can't Ccleaner?"
I works from within Control Panel > Internet Options, Delete probably because you are using a MS method to clean a MS product.
I suspect (guess only) that Piriform has made CC less IE compatible due to Windows 10 and Edge, and IE's dwindling market share, not that that is an excuse.
I will forward this thread to the Admins for a response.
Thanks for the reply. I rarely use IE myself, but sometimes Chrome does not do the job and have to revert to IE.
However, by way of further information, the Ccleaner issue arises even when IE has not been used (since last run of Control Panel > Internet Options, Delete). Now, it may be that something else is "sharing" the same capabilities (History) as IE (Thunderbird?) or it may be that issue with using Cleaner arises regardless (of whether there is any IE History to clean).
