CCleaner just updated itself today. How can I revert back to the previous version? This new version has a bug in it that reboots my PC every time it runs. That’s Totally Unacceptable. If I can’t revert it back to the previous version, I would like to know of another application that does the same things or even a better job and DOES have support I can get to either via email, live chat with a human, or fill out a form that support can respond to. I see no way to contact them for support and ask them what might be wrong? It shows no error message other than “Something Went Wrong and YOUR system will have to reboot” and it does reboot without me having the option to say wait a minute, so I can close and save anything that was open. I have no clue where CCleaner keeps its logs to go look and see details of what went wrong if there are any logs. Another unacceptable thing. And why don’t they have some sort of support?? Other, than posting to this forum?? Thanks in advance. I suppose I may just have to uninstall, it as it is worthless to me now on this new version just release. HELP, please.
HI @dlg01,
Sorry, you are experiencing this issue with CCleaner.
You can contact our support team via the Contact Us form on the CCleaner Help Centre.
Please could you send me a screenshot or a photo taken on a mobile device of the message you are seeing before the reboot so I can investigate this further.
If you have any questions, please message me back.
It’s a PC running Windows 11. There is not warning or error message and not time to grab a screenshot.
I’ve already contacted CCleaner support with a form. No reply in nearly a week from them. It’s been un-installed and re-installed already. Same thing occurs.
The form should have started (or invited you to start) an Ai chat, often it can solve these things it self, else ask it forcefully for a human.
What section of ccleaner are you running when this crash happens? What security software do you have? Fill in some of the blanks and either this community or Laurence may be able to help
Best I can tell, it rebooted when it tried to update Microsoft Onedrive. I went ahead and updated manually and now it doesn’t try. Just another bud. They should have never started trying to update applications in my OP. That’s not a function we pay them for. This has happened before when updating Windows OS.
PS: I’m an IT engineer (MCSE and CCNE) well trained and experienced for many years by Microsoft and Cisco. I do love Malwarebytes and have 2 lifetime versions of it. I run nothing else for security other than a front end firewall that also has decent security on it. Having a Cisco firewall at home is way too much money for most home users and to complex too. I do wish I could afford one however.
The software and driver installers are optional and are not run in either Health Check or Custom Clean, honestly if you don’t want them to update then just don’t use them. I ignore the Driver updater on my new laptop as its drivers are still served by the OEM and windows update. I for a while only used software updater to tell me what needed updating (i.e. adobe reader) and I manually update it; since then I’ve begun, slowly and carefully, letting CCleaner update some things (DEFINITLY NOT WINDOWS UPDATES). It’s true that OneDrive is a weird one in CCleaner and often shows newer versions than publicly noted. OneDrive is very tied into the system, and I for one would rather windows updates and system apps were not part of the software updater.
However, we’ve been told things are changing in the next iteration of Ccleaner, 7.10
What these changes are have not been told but changes may mean easier updates in the future.
Actually, this was a much asked for addition, though I know not why as I too use CCleaner for its purpose of cleaning. But many ARE paying for the “privilege” of having a software and driver updater.
That said, the crash of the system may be malwarebytes not liking the system being played with. Or a, previously unreported, symptom of the error 4 issue with updating ms software (noticeably OneDrive and visual c redistributable)
TBH what you describe sounds more like a Windows System issue than either CCleaner or Malwarebytes (I’ve never had a system level issue with either of those) so I would run DISM and SFC in that order.
As you say that you are an experienced engineer I’m sure you know how to do that.
I do agree with Nergal, I hardly ever let CCleaner update software and never let it update drivers.
Hi dig01:
You might want to follow janb’s 27-Jul-2026 Ccleaner herstart mijn computer (“CCleaner restarts my computer”) about a similar problem they have when CCleaner tries to install software updates.
I wonder if there’s something in particular about recent OneDrive updates that are causing a problem. See my posts in EricB’s 23-Jul-2026 topic OneDrive has stopped updating itself in the AskWoody forum, where I noted that my automatic OneDrive updates were stuck at v26.108.0607.0002 but that I was able to update to v26.113.0614.0004 by running a Windows winget command from a command prompt. NOTE: I ran another winget list --name OneDrive command today and winget is still reporting that my v26.113.0614.0004 is up-to-date.
The 28-Jul-2026 image <here> in janb’s topic shows CCleaner is currently recommending OneDrive v26.129.0706.0033, while my UCheck software updater utility is currently recommending v26.123.0608.0001 as of 29-Jul-2026 (see image below). Microsoft’s official OneDrive Sync Release Notes page confirms that v26.113.0614.0004 is the current “production” release and v26.123.0628.0001 is “rolling out” (see image below) so I’m not sure why CCleaner is already trying to push out OneDrive v26.129.x.
According to employee Laurence_CCleaner’s 08-Jun-2026 explanation in Nergal’s Where does CCLeaner get it’s OneDrive Versions Microsoft’s documentation on the official OneDrive Sync Release Notes page is always outdated, so if I accept that logic (which I’m not sure I do) then that would explain why CCleaner is currently trying to push out a OneDrive v26.129.x update that isn’t listed anywhere on that official OneDrive Sync Release Notes page. However, keep in mind that OneDrive v26.129.x still isn’t recommended by winget or my UCheck software updater utility.
ASIDE:
This topic was started on 15-Jul-2026 so I doubt this is related to your PC re-boot problem, but you might also want to read TheodoreM’s 27-Jul-2026 topic Something very wrong with latest version, warning in the Malwarebytes forum about a known bug in the latest Malwarebytes Premium v5.6.3.277 (rel. 23-Jul-2026). If you’ve already installed the v5.6.3.277 update then Malwarebytes employee AdvancedSetup posted a temporary workaround for affected users <here> in TheodoreM’s topic.
