New to Defraggler...I have a question

I am using the free version and ran an analysis. Where does it give the recommendation as to whether or not to defrag? or does it? It says I have 14%. What is the suggested action? Thank you.

I think DF won't offer suggestions. I always advise to use the quick defrag option and you should defrag on a month by month basis or when fragmentation is heavy.

unlike the XP defrag program that did offer suggestions as to whether you should or shouldn't defrag, Defraggler offers no such advice.

it simply gives you the facts and lets you decide on the course of action.

it is up to you to evaluate your situation; are SSD's involved, how many files are frag'd, what's the average of frags per file, and whatever attribute you deem worthy.

as a general rule, most people defrag way too much. a drive needs to have many frags over many files for the defrag process to have any real, obvious speed boosting benefits.

if you defrag weekly or monthly, in my opinion that is too often. something more like 6 monthly would give you a better performance boost in relation to the time taken and increased wear on the drive the defrag process imposes.

of course there will always be exceptions; for example, i will defrag just my OUTLOOK.PST file when it gets over a 100 or so fragments. just so opening Outlook is improved.

things like that.

Agreed to what MTA posted. He is right. I think most of us are compulsive defraggers.

a new form of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Defraggers) - i like it.

I'm guilty of that.
