Just a heads up to anyone using Netgear R7000 and R6400 routers (and possibly other models) that because an exploit for these routers has been made public, and there is no workaround known at the moment, the recommendation is to discontinue use of the router as soon as possible.
- Since when has Homeland Security an interest in protecting people from using unsafe computer equipment ? I have heard stories where the US "Security Services" has knowledge of vulnerabilities in computer equipment and in spite of that they didn't report it to anyone but used those weak spots to their own advantage. (Think: Snooping, to use a relatively friendly term.)
We are not talking politics here Willy.
I'm just advising people about a serious issue with a router they may have.

and this is why i dont use consumer grade routers. You can get cheaper, better and more reliable non consumer routers instead which have a learning curve but can be a lot faster and secure instead. I use mikrotik as my router and while they do have their shortcomings they're still good as a router.
Infact i know some countries that use vulnerable routers all around that not only are they exposed to the internet by ISP configs on those routers but users are also locked out from changing some configs and the router itself can be accessed without requiring a password. The problem also extends to IoT as well such as the IP cameras becoming part of a botnet.
