Need help with SD card recovery

2 nights ago I accidentally formatted an SD card while we were on vacation. Somehow I also accidentally took one black image after that. Put the camera away and didn’t touch it until we can home today. I just downloaded the Recuva software...ran it...during scanning it was showing it found 500+ images for step 1. It doesn’t run step 2 or 3 but goes directly to the images found screen and says no images found. What in the world is going wrong?!?
