need help with ccleaner registry cleaner...

Hi, kindly please let me know if I posted in wrong forum group. I like to respect threads. I have the ccleaner and used the cleaner and has helped my computer. Thanks a bunch. Now I want to use the registry cleaner (still having a few bugs) but am afraid I will mess my computer when I am asked fix something. I will not know what I am doing. I heard of others who use a registry cleaner, don't know what they are doing and end up messing computer. And I know I am one of them. How will I know what to clean and what not to clean. This seems a bit complicated and need to know all info to make this easy. Again the cleaner alone has helped. Can't thank you enough...

Hi Raul, and welcome to Piriform.

The benefits of cleaning the registry have two schools of thought. One that says it makes a difference to how your pc runs, and the other camp which thinks it doesn't make that much difference at all.

I subscribe to the first camp, and believe it does help in keeping your PC running smoothly.

The most important thing about using a registry cleaner is to ALWAYS make a backup of the registry first. If you follow the CCleaner dialogue, it will prompt you to backup the registry items it is going to delete before you delete them, but better than that is to also make a backup of your entire registry daily, which a lot of members on here do, with a free program called ERUNT.

ERUNT Download:

That one action could be a life saver in getting your PC out of many problem situations.

If you encounter a problem after using a registry cleaner, the solution to that is to merge the registry backup back into the registry, which is as simple as double clicking the backup file.

That's the basics, but if you need any more advice about any of these processes, please post back, and the members here are always happy to help with any queries or problems.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: Also see the CCleaner documentation.
