Need help deleting cookies

I've not had any problems with CCleaner in the past, but recently I can't delete a number of cookies. For example American Greetings.com, and many other sites that I visited only once. I have them in the deleted column, but they still don't go after cleaning. I clean my explorer for cookies, I clean my disc, then run the ccleaner. I have made sure the box is checked for cookies, but they still don't go. I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Can any one help me, am I missing something?

Thanks guys, and happy halloween to all

Hi, unless the physical cookie files are there, these are ghost cookies and they should no longer list after a restart of the PC. Piriform is working on a way for this not to occur.

They are still there after a restart. As far as I can tell, yes the physical cookies are still there, and I can't delete them.

Did you view the pages where the cookies are from with a different browser to your usual one?

No, I only have explorer.

Try down grading CCleaner to a version earlier than 2.35 and then see if they are deleted. From what I can tell the problem started with the 2.35 version and has continued with each subsequent release. Older versions are available on the FileHippo download link.

I was experimenting with v3.0 this morning and found this works to delete the "ghost" cookies.....

1. Uncheck the box for Internet Explorer Index.dat files and run CCleaner.

2. Check the Internet Explorer Index.dat files box and run CCleaner again.

The "ghost" cookies will be gone and maybe resolve your problem too.

After some more experimentation I found that the problem I had with "ghost" cookies was resolved by just leaving the Internet Explorer Index.dat box unchecked.

Thank you, I downgraded my ccleaner, and unchecked my Index.dat box, and finally the cookies ( or ghost cookies) are gone. Thank you for your help. I had gone into the temp folder and deleted the cookies many times individually when the ccleaner didn't remove them, and they still appeared over and over without me visiting the websites again, but all is ok now. I don't know how or why, it happened all of a sudden, but I had just upgraded to version 3, so maybe that was the problem. Thanks again.

You are more than welcome. Happy to hear that your problem has been fixed as well. Hopefully they will resolve this issue in the next release.
