I tried to recover files from My passport WD external hard disc but recuva did not recognize the disc
does Windows itself recognise it?
is it shown as RAW or not at all?
does it give any error message?
what is your Windows version and how was the drive formatted?
what are you trying to recover from?, was the unit dropped, were files deleted?
basically, if windows can't detect it nor can Recuva and your recovery options will be severely hampered.
