My first time to use DVD ripping tools

This is my first time to use DVD converter. I chose a converter named ImTOO DVD Ripper Ultimate and mainly used the ripping, effect and the clip function, which is also the key function of this software, because I just know little about this converter at that time.

At the beginning I tried a file which is 15.82M and lasts for 1 minute 40 seconds to rip into mp4. The ripping duration is nearly the same as the original files? length and I was very happy toward this. And then I tried a file of 61.39M and lasts 4 minutes 2 seconds to rip into mp4. This time the ripping speed disappointed me a little. The whole duration is 26 minutes. Although I know that my computer operation system and the original file size affect the ripping speed and the duration as well, I do hope the ripping speed can be improved.

And I found ImTOO DVD Ripper Ultimate can supports much more output formats and the formats can be sorted by portable devices

But I still found a problem; I can?t apply the effect function to the segment which I got from the original file.

I also tried a tool named Avex DVD Ripper Platinum. Comparing with ImTOO DVD Ripper Ultimate, this software supports less output files, and few settings, but this software gets bigger preview windows than ImTOO DVD Ripper Ultimate and original video can be viewed during the ripping without sound.

So, whatever, this is my first time to use DVD tools, just these opinions, u guys could give me some suggestion or talk about some useful tools here.

Hi usher, have you actually bought these programs, or using the trial versions? I've no experience with either of them I'm afraid.

Unless I've read your post and missed it, you don't say what type of files you are ripping, or converting.

Most ripping/converting procedures can be done with freeware, but one thing to avoid really, is previewing while you are ripping. Doing that will seriously slow down the process, and have your processor working much harder than it needs to.

I've never been able to ascertain any benefit from previewing while ripping or converting anyway.

You could get some good suggestions on here if you provide a bit more info as to what it is you are ripping and/or converting.

Example: Are you backing up DVD's, or converting avi into Mp4 format for a portable media player etc.

But I still found a problem; I can't apply the effect function to the segment which I got from the original file.

If you are clipping avi files for example, they're pretty temperamental files to mess around with.

I've came across problems with software simply not recognizing an avi file that's been clipped, or tampered with in other ways. Some I've managed to fix more by luck than judgement, and some I've simply had to bin.

There's lots of stuff available if we know what you're doing.

Hi, DennisD, thank u for ur opinions, this is my first time to write article here, it's looks like a list of my using, so I'll try to write some new ideas in the thread next time, thank u for the concerning.

ps. I really bought ImTOO DVD Ripper Ultimate & Avex DVD Ripper Platinum, and the input file is vob format, and the output file is mp4 format, that I forgot to write.

You could have done that with freeware or open source alternatives. Also some of the commercial applications are just as buggy or worse than their free counterparts.

I dunno what to tell you really about your problem applying an effect to the segment you have from your original file.

The software I use, Mediacoder, has built in presets for converting to different formats, including MP4, and any effects available are applied during the conversion process.

Is that what your sofware does, or are you trying to apply an effect to a segment of an MP4 file after you've converted it?

Or have you already solved your problem?

Thanks DennisD, I've tried mediacoder you suggest and i tried imtoo's dvd ripping tool. I like the converient profiles and if it could fix the sound and video synic things could be perfect.

Hi Amsden, and welcome to the forum.

MediaCoder is a very good program for converting between different formats, but for ripping DVD's you can also get very good freeware to do this.

DVDFab?HD Decrypter: (Freeware)

This will rip either the entire DVD you want to backup, or the main movie only.

When you mention sound and video sync, do you mean lip sync? This is a problem I encounter when converting AVI movies, and although there are tools that enable a pretty good attempt at fixing this problem, it isn't too easy.

If this is what you mean, give some details and?I'd be happy to give what help I can, and links to the free software available.
