Mozilla Thunderbird

I run AVG at 14:00 each day and to prevent it having to deal with and report tracking cookies I have CCleaner scheduled to run at 13:55. I make sure that Firefox is closed at this time so that CCleaner can run completely and clean the internet cache. Until recently this worked fine but I have now realised that CCleaner will no longer clean the cache if Thunderbird is running. Given that I leave Thunderbird running all day this is a pain (I only have Firefox running when I need it so this doesn't normally interfere with the scheduled run of CCleaner).

Is the change in behaviour the result of the recent change to V7 of Thunderbird and Firefox or is it due to a change in CCleaner? If the latter then would it be possible to split the Firefox/Mozilla section on the applications tab into Firefox and Thunderbird sections so that I could disable the cleaning for Thunderbird?

yes change is because v7. Make sure you update to the (third) release of ccleaner 3.11 it should warn if tb is open

Certainly it warns you if you run it manually but not if you have it scheduled to run silently using the /AUTO switch. I suppose I could remove the switch so that CCleaner appears each day but then I would have to close when it had finished running rather than the action being automatic. It would also mean that if my PC was unattended at that time CCleaner wouldn't finish running before AVG started. Looks like I need to replace CCleaner or Thunderbird.

Or look around for a freeware app launcher program which can start and exit programs.

or let Firefox/thunderbird take care of their own cleaning

(though admittedly I'm doubly biased here 1) I think for the most part Mozilla products do the best job at cleaning themselves, and 2) I really don't like the /AUTO+Schedule for the normal cleaning of a computer)

I have taken Andavari's advice. I have downloaded a copy of NirCmd and have scheduled this to terminate Thunderbird and Firefox (using its closeprocess call) five minutes before CCleaner runs. Then scheduled Thunderbird to run again ten minutes later. I'm now back with things working as they did for many years before the recent Mozilla change.

(Thunderbird will prompt you if you are composing an email when NirCmd attempts to close it - the program doesn't just close without warning in this situation)
