I did a registry scan and 6000+ issues came up, I clicked fix all and now this...
I get error messages on nearly every file," X file cannot be opened, error opening the file. there may be a disk or file system error"
I tried to fix this by "Merging" the back up .reg file, it said it was added but nothing was fixed.
What Operating System are you using? If vista or Windows seven run regedit.exe and go to the file menu and restore the reg file. Whether that works or not please report back to this thread. If it doesn't work we will explore other possible fixes.
Ccleaner is a gentle registry cleaner, if you had tried another registry "fixer" you would have encounter even more "errors" and you computer would quite possibly be more messed up.

I used a PCcleaner, that's the name. OS is vista.
I was told this was the wrong product and yes, I "fixed" everything checked off before I knew what I was doing, I fear now it's all lost forever and I will need to reformat, which is more of a hassle than trying to figure out what happened and fix it.

- Download CCleaner from the internet
- Run a registry sweep
- Clean the registry
These are the instructions I was given, I followed them unknowingly.
I had no idea what this program did, I asked for a fix to a problem and this is what I got.
run regedit.exe and go to the file menu and restore the reg file. .
I tried this but got no restore option, sorry for my nubness but I'm computer illiterate sometimes.
I tried to "Import..." the reg file into this and it said "added" but still nothing was fixed.
I also tried a system restore, this made it difficult for my Pc to start again. I was able to restore it but nothing was actually restored, things also change to unknown icons randomly like the circled ones here.
I may have accidently saved over the CC reg file with another scan, I am reinstalling everything 1by1.

How is going after the Restore?
Also, try using the EDIT button so as to reduce the number of posts as what you just did was "spam". I know you are in a real tight fix at the moment and what's going on with your computer is really frustrating so I'm gonna cut you some slack.

Never use ANY Registry Cleaner unless you know what you are doing!
If you can take a backup of all your data, do that and install a fresh copy if all else fails.
