may/may not be CC's fault

OK I do not know if this was a coincidence or a serious bug in CCleaner V. 2.00.491 (BETA)

but I installed CCleaner set all the settings to the way I want them and ran it once

I then left my computer (powered on as usual) for a few hours.

when I came back a drive letter was missing (F:)

I have 3 HD drives but many partitions on 2 of them

this one (F:) is my smallest drive and the only partition on that drive

I thought maybe the SATA cable came loose or something so I made sure the

SATA cable was seated firmly

it was

so I thought maybe a reboot but I was not 2 worried about it yet

as i had only one game and some back-up files on this drive (Nothing important)

well this morning I rebooted to see if I got my drive back

NO the drive shows up in hardware profiles AND computer management

but the partition is gone

I?m not sure yet HOW it got deleted but here are some basic things I know

NOT to be the problem

1) the only change I made to my PC before this happened was to install CCleaner beta

2) I do not have a virus and no spyware on my computer

3) My technical skill can be consider expert, I use to run and maintain a company?s entire network

and fix all my families and friends computers

My OS is:

Windows XP with all updates

2 Virus Scanners

1 spyware scanner

and Hitman Pro ran once a week

Zonealarm Firewall

My system specs are:

DFI LanpartyUT nF4 Ultra-D

AMD Athlon 64 3800+

2x OCZ Gold Edition 1GB PC-4000

Maxtor 6Y120L0 PATA

WDC WD5000KS SATA

Maxtor 6Y060M0 SATA <-- the bad one

I am not asking for technical help. I have not even tried to recover the data yet.

Also the drive tests as healthy.

I downloaded this program from this main site and have not made any other changes to

My PC since installing CCleaner

but because this was the only change made I decided to post here what happened to me

here incase of the chance it was CCleaner.

as a finale note

Q: Do I believe it was CCleaner that deleted my partition ?

A: NO (I think there is a low probability of this but can?t rule it out)

Q: why did I make this post if I think CCleaner did not delete my partition and that it was just a fluke of nature that the deletion of my partition and installing CCleaner (Beta) happened at the same time ?

A: the answer to this is 2 fold

A1: I cannot rule out the possibility that CCleaner has done this

A2: ?IF? CCleaner DID do this I think this post needed to be made

take care

A1yet

I have a few suggestions to try, if you have not tried them yet.

- In Disk Management click on the drive and go to 'Change Drive Letter and Paths' and remove then add the same drive letter (F).

- If that does not work, try the above with a different drive letter.

- If neither works try removing the letter->restart->reassigning a letter.

If I think of any other possible solutions I'll post.
