I ran CCleaner on my laptop and ever since then, it's stopped booting. When I start the computer, it takes me to Startup Repair, which is unable to fix the problem for me.
The make is Acer 5820T. The OS is Windows 7. I can't see my BSOD, even when I press F8 and then choose the "disable system restart" option (as advised in this thread http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?showtopic=41625&hl=registry). It just takes me straight to another Startup Repair. I've been using Windows Security Essentials.
When I tried using System Restore, it just says that no restore points have been created on the computer's system drive.
I used sfc \scannow too, and I've attached a picture of what came up then.
At the end of my tether here, and I'd appreciate from the bottom of my heart a solution that doesn't involve a wipe. Help please!
Have you tried 'last known good' from the F8 menu?
Are you able to see your pictures and docs etc to get them back if you boot using a linux cd? (you may need a friends pc to download and burn it for you)
And to ease your concerns, even if you reload a fresh copy of Windows 7, it will automatically copy all your data (and it's old Program Files and Windows folders) into a new folder called windows.old, in effect, doing a backup for you.
Sort of a best of all worlds, you fix the current problem when no other solution worked, you get a fresh install of Windows and the speed that brings and all your data is still there. Yes, you have to reload all your software again - but hey, we can't have it all.
After you get your system up and running just the way you want it I'd highly recommend you look into a disk imaging software, there's both freeware and commercial. Often on the forums we recommend Macrium Reflect Free Edition (due to its ease of use), however there's also others.
