hey i just have a few questions concerning my mates keyboard on his laptop,so please forgive the newb Qs im about to ask.but just to tell u what happened first,my mate disabled some important startup program,so the windows screen pops up on startup but u just get a black screen after it if i remember correctly.it shud be an easy case of going to last known good config or safe mode and fixing start up program,but this is where the problem is.
alas i cant do that because most of his F1-F12 keys are broken,is there any way to fix his keyboard?are there any other ways to start up in safe mode?i thought my keyboard from desktop wud plug into his laptop but it wudnt,can i get a usb keyboard that will slot into it ok?
are there any other ways to start up in safe mode?
It can be done using MSCONFIG, here's how:
- Normally start the computer.
- Click Start->Run->Type in: MSCONFIG
- In MSCONFIG go to the BOOT.INI tab, and in it tick /SAFEBOOT
- Click OK and restart the computer when prompted to get into Safe Mode.
NOTE: While in Safe Mode make sure you reverse the above directions to disable Safe Mode before you shutdown or reboot the computer, otherwise it will continuously restart in Safe Mode until disabled.
Also your friend should be able to get an inexpensive "generic" keyboard under $10-$15 USD "I think" if visiting an office store like Staples, regardless it would surely beat having a broken keyboard with some non-functioning critically needed keys.
