Java on XP

We all know about Java and how most of us have uninstalled it anyway.

However just a heads up for XP users who need Java for one reason or another, that Oracle no longer supports XP, may offer security fixes that no longer work, and you cannot even install Java 8 on XP now anyway.

For info see here

I think version 7u51 is the latest one working under XP. I would recommend XP users getting rid of Java altogether.

Thing is some XP users need to use Java for one reason or another.

These are people this will affect.

The rest of us uninstalled it a while ago.

What is Java ?????? <_<

Java just went down hill really fast, what a shame  .

XP users will need to decide when, not if, they are going to get with the times.

Thanks, Hazelnut.

I uninstalled java from this xp machine long ago when you first warned us about it.

Have needed it maybe twice since, just temporarily installed it and when finished out it went.

I prefer to just avoid sites or apps that require java, and that works pretty well.

Come on, here, Hav0c, lighten up a little bit. :D

No real need to tell us XPers what we should decide.

No offense taken here, but others may not know you as well as I do.

Yea, maybe I have been a little hard on XPers (really XPers ??? :D ).

Sorryyyyy^_^

Thanks login123 for understanding that this thread is just a HEADS UP for XP users who for one reason or another, have to sometimes use Java. :)

Hav0c we forgive you !

Hav0c, forgive & forget applies here.

Nothing to forgive, really, and no chance i would remember anyway.

20 paces at dawn!

Not sure I can see that far.

Anyway, everybody beats up on us poor old XPers.

Fwiw, I tried different names and XPers seems the best of a poor lot, just be careful spelling it and saying it. .

Java was XPee'd off my system years ago. ;)

I like the fact that XP-ers keep the system up and running. I bailed after what, 10 - 12 years and can't look back. Even something as mundane as casual online games upgrading and getting more powerful has driven me to blasphemy.

I'll own a PS4 game system before ever thinking of "upgrading" from XP.

Corona, XP-ers (with the hyphen) is much more polite. Wish I had thought of it. :P

I would never have been able to run xp this long without some sort of instant restore app and image backup.

Powershadow and Acronis here, Returnil and Macrium for DennisD.

Fwiw:

I have a machine running win 7 and win xp on 2 different hard drives, and this machine running win xp only.

That other machine has about 1.5x or 2x the RAM and a faster processor.

Win xp on that machine is much faster than win 7 on that machine.

Win xp on this machine is just as fast as win 7 on that machine.

Big secret: I actually like win 7 better, but am not willing to give up the security of an instant snap back capability.

By all accounts win 7 is more secure out of the box, so is probably better for someone who doesn't want to tinker with it.
