anyone taking bets on when the first vulnerability will be found?
but thanks Winapp2 for the link, my copies were still at jre-7u17 so were in need of the updates.

Have been told that at the moment it installs side by side with Java 7u51 (no auto update) so as to avoid not being able to use Java 8 on software that is not compatible with it yet?
Thanks everyone for the links and insight. Good thing to know about XP, Hazelnut. I haven't deleted the older v7 installer yet.
Thanks for the info everyone.
Am keeping the last java 7 (jre-7u51-windows-i586) against a day when I might need to install it temporarily in win xp.
I'm actually glad to see major vendors are dropping support for XP, even for something as awful as Java.
No offense to anyone clinging to XP
