Java 7 does not seem to uninstall jave 6.31

Just a friendly reminder that Oracle/Sun/Java is back to it's old ways of having it's old version stay behind, so if you upgrade to Java 7 don't forget to then remove java 6

(this is not a debate on the goodness of java, some people have web-apps that require it this this just a warning to those poeple to check and make sure they're not running an old (insecure) version as well as the new 7)

Just remember that some older applications may not run on J7, so you may wish to keep J6.31 around

Going to have to disagree there (at least til someone points me to broken apps) as 31 is insecure

Where can I get the latest version of Java 6? We highly recommend downloading and installing Java 7. The latest release for Java contains many new features, performance enhancements, and bug fixes to improve the running of Java Applets or applications.

Are you still looking for the latest version of Java 6?

If you have already tried Java 7 and are facing issues running your Java Applets or applications, than please let us know details of the problems you encountered.

Please report the problems or issues you using Java 7.

Get the latest version at the Java 6 download page

However if you do keep 1.6x be sure you go up to .33

when 7 first came out, Minecraft wouldn't run without at least some version of six installed. They've fixed it since then though.

Ninja'd during edit LOL

i thought that 6.31 was the last in the 6 versions.

Security Fixes (for those that are afeared of 1.7 I guess)

Java is on my shortlist of things I want to go away. Flash is in its own list, however.

If you don't have any programs or want to try any that require Java it's easy enough to live without. Flash (in all its buggy glory) on the other hand isn't so easy to live without, I'd like to get rid of it myself due to the never ending bugs but also like watching online videos which require it.

I have never counted on Java to remove the previous version, so I do a clean install every new version.

Youtube lets you replace flash with HTML5, but not on all videos (yet)

since 1.6.(10?) java has been removing all older versions, that's why this was remarkable.

perhaps because its a major version number update, they left the old one intact?

mayhaps

Can't even install the latest Java, not 32 or 64bit.

Also previous versions (at least the 32bit update 4) can't be uninstalled properly.

Where is JavaRa when we need it ?

Answer :-

This was strongly recommended on this forum in the past.

I know, I made the Winapp2.ini entry for JavaRa log. At least updated it, can't remember. :D

Doesn't help, also removed every "java"-file and registry entry, still no luck.

GG Java.

Does the Beta version 2 work for you ?

How many versions are left party uninstalled?

If it is only a couple try re-installing that particular version, rebooting, and then uninstall it.

Sometimes if versions have been installed on top of another version ''strange things can happen''

I've tried JavaRa and JavaRa 2 beta 3.

Previously I had none Java versions installed. Now I've 64bit and it works (Java 7 u5 64bit), tested with Minecraft. But can't install 32bit 7u5 and if I try to install older eg. 7u4 (my previous version) it says "Another version of this product is already installed...".

Don't know if the current 64bit works correctly, I can see it under Windows Add/Rmove, but not in RevoUninstaller.

What's also weird is that CCleaner still shows Java 7 Update 4 installed even though I've (at least tried) uninstalled it in different ways. CCleaner also shows 7u5 64bit.

Edit: "Uninstalled" Java 7 Update 4 with CCleaner, it doesn't really remove it because if I refresh the "Uninstall"-section in CCleaner it immediatly comes back.

Also it seems I can remove Java 7u5 64bit normally, but not sure if it uninstalls correctly. It doesn't reappear in CCleaner after uninstall.
