Is it a good idea to disable indexing on your hard drive

Is it beneficial to un-check the "Index this drive for faster searching" option for your drive? Some seem to think this makes a noticeable difference to performance.

yes, and as per another site black viper, they recommend it.

I have indexing turned off here.

Depends on how often you use the Search option. I don't use it much, so I've disabled mine.

The indexing service it's disabled by default, so the tick only works if the service is enabled.

I have the Indexing service disabled, and I was wondering if I should uncheck the "Index this drive for faster searching" box in the Properties dialog of my C drive.

EDIT: For some reason, the checkbox is unchecked now. Nevermind about my question.

you have to disable it in services.msc

I have indexing disabled.

For "faster" proper searching without Windows filtering out results and finding nothing I use NirSoft SearchMyFiles.
