Installed CCCleaner and immediately got infected

Hi,

I just thought I'd let you know that yesterday I installed CCleaner after seeing a promotion for it on a morning TV chat show. Within 30 minutes my computer was infected with one of those desktop wallpaper hijackers and my symantec corporate virus software was going nuts.

I'm not very happy, I can only assume that as this was the only thing I'd installed and I only visited 2 websites, both of which I visit all the time (work related) that CCleaner was to blame.

Needless to say I have uninstalled your program for now and purchased and run xsoft spy which has fixed my issue.

Has this happened to others?

No. Absolutely not. Where did you download CCleaner from?

I downloaded it from the link listed on the website.

try posting a HiJackThis log.

it may just be spyware or something other.

If "just spyware" is downloaded when I download CCleaner there is an issue don't you think?

Its a coincidence not an issue.

You probably got it from a drive-by infected site and you did not have the recommended prevention protection installed.

Post a HijackThis log in the correct area and the experts will look at it.

The link from What website? CCleaner is not infected. You must have downloaded from a bad site. But without any more information from you we can't help you.

Infected? or a not-a-virus warning pop up like what Kaspersky has, because of the installer.

Hi,

Just to say that I have never had any trouble installing CCleaner... However I read somewhere that xSoft Spy is itself a spyware program... I would try using the free download from "Spybot S&D" to double check for spyware, though would think that Symantec should detect any infection quite effectively.

Refer to Lunarsoft.net and get your pc properly cleaned. A third party distributor more than likely was infected.
