installation issue - no prog group showing up

Installed under 32-bit vista ultimate standard account (elevated by entering administrative passwords, of course), no program group is created after installing CClean, nor is there any icons. I had to manually drag the .exe to my desktop to create a shortcut there. This is true not just for CClean, but for other piriform goodies as well such as fraggler, recuva.

I love these tools, but am just wondering if it is just me who is experiencing this problem. It's been like that since I started using CClean, which was v2.18.

Thanks.

Can anyone else confirm this problem?

I can confirm this. Shortcuts are made only for the admin whose password you use to install the program. Happens for some other programs too (for example spotify).

That's a different issue to the OP though. anres' problem is where a non-admin user is installing with elevated privileges but does not get any menu items at all.

Standard (e.g.) CCleaner behaviour is to only create menu items for the installing user.

I think slipo was saying the samething - because a non-admin user can only obtain elevated privileges by picking an admin account to install it, and the result, which is consistent to what you said, is that only that admin has the program group and icons created. it would be nicer if the install shield for CClean is changed so that it creates the program group and icons under the public account instead of a specific user account.

Hmmmm. I read slipo's post as 'only the person installing gets shortcuts' (regardless of user privileges). That's something mentioned reasonably often.

Could be wrong of course :)

Either way, your original query still stands. [Edited to add, where I'm reading yours as a privilege elevation / standard user issue in Vista]

No problem marmite. ambiguity on my part. but glad to know I am not the only one seeing this issue (otherwise it would mean something is incorrect with my system)

Most likely the problem is what users have been asking about for years and that's why are the shortcuts and program group only created for the current user. If the shortcuts and program group where put into the All Users area that may equal problem solved. Hint: That's the default behaviour of Inno Setup which would possibly solve it!

The OP distinctly states that there is no program group at all.
