just today i found out what people were talking about this gutmann pass. it thoroughly deletes old files etc. but ive noticed it didnt delete any files from recycle bin..when i scanned with recuva, it still found those deleted files intact.. is odd. is there any way to delete permanently?

What makes you think these recoverable files were the files that were in the recycle bin, did they have their original names? If so they weren't as files in the recycle bin are renamed by Windows (usually to something like dc123 or similar). AFAIK just moving a file to the recycle bin will leave a recoverable copy in the files original location, this could be what you are finding. If this is a problem secure delete the file in place instead of sending to the recycle bin first (using something like Eraser), or just use Recuva occasionally to wipe these copies of files left behind.
Incidentally running the 35 pass delete isn't really needed (1 or 3 passes is more than enough) and just causes unnecessary wear on your hard drive.
thx for replies guys. the old files are of some OS related information. cheers
also, tried that secure delete option, it worked. thx
