inaccessible JPGs

After running CCleaner, many JPGs can no longer be opened. Is there a remedy ?

Hello Basty :)

I am afraid you are going to have to give a bit more information than you have.

Which operating system do you use?

Which version of CCleaner did you use, and was it the first time you had used it?

Did you do a normal clean or did you do the registry(issues) clean as well?

What message do you get when you try to open the jpgs?

Have you tried system restore in the meantime?

Windows Xp Home SP3

Files JPG, MP3 is not open after work CCleaner. The system reports that an unknown file format.

The size of folders about 650-700 megabytes.

The files stored on your C:

This is a solid, but not perfectly every time. The phenomenon seen among multiple users on different computers.

Version CCleaner - the most recent. I use CCleaner every day (Dod 5220.22 M). I am not sure that the problem is related to cleaning the registry. I do not think the problem is related to the recovery system. JPG and MP3 are not system files, this is not the driver and stuff, they do not persist in creating a system of control points.

I looked problematic files. They are empty. They do not have the machine code. But the size, date, and others remain unchanged.

Thank you for your prompt assistance.

Fepl you said this problem is seen by many users, I do not see it and do not think many others here do.

Do you make the backup offered by CCleaner when you clean the registry (issues clean)?

Please go here and use the reg fix to see if it restores your jpg registry associations

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

Also what is the exact path of where you store your music.

I would be very unhappy if CCleaner cleaned out my JPGs and thankfully it has not done that for me either with the regular cleaner nor the registry cleaner but then I do not use the time wasting (Dod 5220.22 M) cleaning neither.

What apps used to open your JPG and MP3 files?

If these files have been corrupted in some way then I wouldn't blame CC.

I have thousands of JPG files and they have never been corrupted.

Have you done the normal virus/spyware/malware checks? ;)

1) The problem is not related to the associations files.

2) We have no problems with virus / spyware / malware (drweb/spybot/zonelaram/superantispyware/advanced windows care etc.)

3) Put the files differ, for example, on your desktop, or at the root of C:

4) I will repeat for the inattentive:

"I looked problematic files. They are empty. They do not have the machine code. But the size, date, and others remain unchanged"

I was not able to make a JPG file to this message. This is prohibited.

You might have seen that the file is empty.

I do computers and software for a very long time. But I see this problem in their own for the first time.

Hello Fepl,

Welcome to the forums!!! :D

You have very serious situation.

We have no reports about similar problems from other users.

From what you are describing, I do not think CCleaner is causing this.

It sounds more like the work of a malicious program and the person using it.

You may have to use some tracking software to figure out when, how and who is doing this.

You may have to be very secretive about this effort also. Your security personnel should be consulted.

Good luck,

:) davey

Thank you all for the answers.

I put a temporary moratorium on the use of CCleaner.

There will be good if I am wrong, but CCleaner here nor with.

My thoughts exactly Davey. ;)
