Email sent to F-secure:

Problem description:

Its the second time today that my F-secure goes through the roof.

First it were som patches for a game......

Now its a program called CCleaner.

http://www.ccleaner.com/download/

I were already using version 1.33 and tried to upgrade to 1.34.

Its the same virus/spyware/maleware as earlier

"Win32.Trojandownloader.zlob" Its not detected when its downloaded but when you tries to install it!

I even tried the old version 1.33 which I allready am using and the same virus warning as with 1.34 popped up.

This must be a false warning.

The F-secure answer a few hours later:

Hello,

This isn?t a virus so therefore F-Secure can?t remove it. Probably it?s a program who wants you to buy their product instead of ours and than they tell you that you have virus though you haven?t.

I send you 2 tools you can try that hopefully can remove theese kind of programs.

Try to follow this guide.

Enter this page and download the "f-spyaxe.zip", save it on your desktop

http://www.f-secure.com/sw-desc/spyaxe.shtml

Then enter this page and download the smitrem.exe file and save it on your desktop.

http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=78572

Then reboot your system into safe mode. You do that by pushing the F8 button during boot.

Then you get a menu where you can choose safemode.

When the computer has finnished starting your desktop will appear in a smaller version.

When your desktop appears open the f-spyaxe.zip and doubleclick the f-spyaxe.reg.

Answer yes on the question if you want to import the information into the registry.

Then doubleclick on the smitrem.exe and push start. Then the files will be unpacked to a folder on your desktop

called "smitrem". Enter the folder and doubleclick the "StartThis.bat"-file.

Then a windows will appear were you need to push a key to continue. Follow this guide.

When this is done, restart your system and the system should be cleaned.

welcome to the forums :D

F-secure is wrong.

i dont want this to start another debate like last time but on Ccleaners home page it says that and also, heres a quote from MrG (the owner of the software).

F-Secure have responded with the following email:

We have verified the claim and isolated the cause of the false alarm.

We are already fixing the problem and will release an update as soon as

possible.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Oh!.....

Great! Hope it will fix this false warning!
