IE popularity surge

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

What the heck... how does IE jump in usage by as much as all of Opera's user base !

Or to put it another way, reversed the last 7 months trend in one month.

Not bad.... but what am I missing ? Who uses the damn thing ?

I do!!!! and I would not use any of the others

Microsoft Updates. :P

Even if I had a new system I still wouldn't use it.

Seems to me you have not experience the true meaning of browser freedom ! ;)

In 7 years (02 - 09) IE lost more then half of it's users,

then in 3 years (09 - 11) again more then half

then again in 2 years (11-13) another half gone.

Man it's a slow death for IE.

Interesting how Chrome gained a lot of popularity vs how Firefox is losing a lot at the same time.

Looks like March of 2012 was the turning point in the battle between Chorme and Firefox.

Wonder why is that  .

It seems to me that you would rather knock a product than try it. I have at least tried the other alternatives and not found them to my taste.

The surge in popularity for IE comes at the expense of Firefox. Seems IE 11 is better than the last version of Firefox ?

Another rendering of the stats:

http://gs.statcounter.com/#browser-ww-monthly-201309-201409

Same site shows that xp has plummeted to only 13 percent worldwide. :P

when I first went to FF it was mainly to stick it to MS, and back then, not many sites supported FF, so you would have to use both.

About 6 months ago, in my PaleMoon vs FF exercises, I found one of my frequent sites, (tax office portal from memory) no longer supports IE, now that was an eye-opener, and to me, a sure sign that IE was on the way out.

all those stats show is that Chrome increase is directly related to all the others decrease.

I'm not a fan of IE (or Chrome for that matter) but I do find it fascinating the fall of one and the rise of the other.

the public are a fickle lot...

Why do you think I made my comment, if according to you I have not tried it ? (end of the story)

+1 fo you dear sir.

Wouldn't Chrome gain in popularity for the add-ons, a similarity with Firefox? Also for people tired of Mozilla seemingly changing Firefox in a way that make people complain so much Chrome would be a viable alternative.

Turning point for chrome to me is mobile.

I won't switch to anything else because nothing syncs the way chrome does between all my different devices.

Except that firefox does LOL

Technically correct, but do you honestly use firefox on your phone/tablet? The Android version of Firefox is awful compared to chrome.

I could use firefox on my desktops/laptop but I would rather use pretty much anything besides firefox on mobile.

Currently I use a galaxy s5 and a iPad Air. There is no firefox on iOS so my point still stands. :P No syncing across all platforms unlike chrome. :)

Yes actually I do but - as I'm oft to say - each to their own likes. comes down to flavor/add-ons/customization for me...

Nuff said lol

I like my tower and I think I'll keep my tower.

I like IE on Win 8.

On XP I use Opera.

IE has grown up since XP days and is not the unsecure browser that it used to be then. Security wise IE11 has a lot going for it.

Which Opera version is best for xp, you think?

Thanks.

12.17 I would say.

Woo hoo, that's the one I'm already using. :P

Opera Mini was the very best browser for the old Blackberry phone model 9810.

Not available afaik for newer model Z10 except in the form of an android app. Hope to be corrected about that.

Bit off topic, but the native browser on the Z10 is really good. Fast, versatile, intuitive. Wonder what it is based on?

Blackberry z10 browser is based on webkit. (same as safari/chrome. Chrome uses its own custom version)
